Cathy Herndon

Over the past 38 years, Cathy Herndon has brought together a variety of sources to produce a body of work that cannot be overlooked. Herndon’s work stems from a serious interest in primitive cultures and folk art, with her direction taking on a 20th century context. She creates informative pieces in a diverse array of materials; more notably mixed media with neon. A recent series incorporates architectural and semi-religious elements from her collection of and visits to world Icons through paint and mixed media including gold leaf. A native of Ashland, Virginia, Cathy Herndon earned a B.S. from Radford University in Art and Drama and an M.S. in Art from VCU. She has taught Art in public schools and privately for 38 years and is currently a retired Art teacher from Stafford Co. Schools and Fredericksburg City Schools in Virginia. Cathy . If you aren’t an artist and would like to join this trip, the cost is $700 before February 15 and $900 after that date. has received much recognition as an art teacher, including a Teacher Exchange to London, England, a Fulbright Memorial award Teacher to Japan 2001, Virginia State Middle school Art teacher of the year 2004 and Gayle Middle Teacher of the year 2010. Her numerous award winning artworks have been included in exhibitions and private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. She also has completed many mural commissions as well as free-lance artwork. Cathy’s art has won awards in juried museum exhibits and several VCCA artist residencies in Virginia and Auvillar, France, summer 2006, a group show there in 2015. She had a one person show in Frejus France in 1999 and group shows in 2011 and 2015. Herndon is a founding member of Exposure Unlimited art group, a founding artist member of Art First Gallery and past president of the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts. Cathy is also past President of the Fredericksburg and Frejus France Sister City, and on the Board of Directors for Sister Cities in Este Italy and Swetzingen Germany.

Cathy will lead our trip to Ajijic, MX July 16 - 22. 2017.  This trip will be filled with fun and painting.  You will be exposed, not only to the beauty of Ajijic but its wonderful food and people.
